Oldest Public High School to Host Flushing Night Out, Featuring Diverse Food, Fashion & Music from Around the World
The Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce today announced the launch of “Flushing Night Out” in partnership with historic Flushing High School, New York’s oldest public high school currently celebrating its 140th Anniversary. “Flushing Night Out” will take place on four Friday nights: July 15, July 29, August 12, and August 26, from 6pm to 11pm at Flushing High School, located at 35-01 Union Street in Flushing, NY 11354. All events are free and open to the public.
“We are a community school and it is imperative for us to build a positive relationship with all stakeholders within the Flushing Community,” said Tyee Chin, Principal of Flushing High School. “Hosting and partnering with the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce is the beginning of what we believe to be a wonderful opportunity to open up the school to the community and provide a place to gather and celebrate the greatness of Flushing.”
In 2015, the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce established “Flushing Night Out” as the first community market and social event in downtown Flushing. In its second year, this night market series promises an exciting line-up of food and fashion entrepreneurs as well as live music and entertainment reflecting America’s most diverse community. The Flushing Chamber has launched a crowdfunding campaign through Generosity.com for those who want to support this community-driven initiative.
“Flushing Night Out will not only highlight our extraordinary entrepreneurial spirit and showcase our amazing cultural diversity, but also build a space for all people to come together to celebrate and take pride in our neighborhood,” stated John Choe, Executive Director of the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce. “We’re very proud to partner with Flushing High School, which is where the future is happening now.”
There will be four installments of “Flushing Night Out” focused on a unique theme and music set: “Summer Nights” (July 15), “Beach Day” (July 29), “Unwind” (August 12), and “(718) Love” (August 26).

Highlights of this year’s “Flushing Night Out” include new vendors House of Mac featuring their triple threat: “Classic Mac and Cheese, Fried Mac and Cheese, and Waffle Mac and Cheese”; Nguyen’s Kitchen, reinventing Vietnamese cuisine; Lezzetli Ice Cream, offering chewy Mediterranean ice cream inspired by the textures and flavors of Greece, Turkey, and the Levant; Rib in a Cup for sizzling barbeque; Uncle Drink; and Wingbot. These vendors will be joined by veterans of past night markets, including: Arbonne International; Bao Baos; Body and Brain Yoga & Taichi; Karl’s Balls; Mix Mix; Moffle Bar; Odin’s Mighty Musubi; Oh Nought; Panda Café; Sam’s Ice Cream; Seoul’s Pancake; Snowdays; Steady; Teinei Ya; and Yumcha Yoga.
“The people of Flushing are very proud of our diverse culture and Flushing Night Out presents a unique opportunity for our local entrepreneurs to promote our business community,” stated Peter Tu, Executive Director of the Flushing Chinese Business Association.
Last summer, the first “Flushing Night Out” community-based night market series drew a total of over 3,000 attendees in July and August. This year, the Flushing Chamber expects attendance to exceed last year’s turnout and is partnering with Flushing High School to host Flushing Night Out on their historically-landmarked campus to meet the demand for a community night market.
“With the rising popularity of night markets around the world, our goal in this second year is to showcase the spirit of the local community and offer a contemporary American experience within a bustling culinary and shopping hub at the heart of Downtown Flushing,” stated Helen Yang, Founder of MW Consulting, a member of the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce. Community members such as Taehoon Kim, Vice President of the Board of the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce, actively support the night market initiative.

Our community has immense strengths and gifts to share, and we are leading the way in promoting the entrepreneurs and artists who have made our Flushing so unique,” stated Don Capalbi, President of the Queensboro Hill Flushing Civic Association and Board Member of the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce.
