Open Air Farmers Market Supports Access to Local Food during COVID-19 Pandemic

If you or anyone in your network would like to volunteer, we have afternoon shifts Thursdays from 12pm at the Free Synagogue to distribute food to our community. #COVID19 #MutualAid #FlushingFoodCollaborative #NYstrong #HateFreeZone #FlushingFantastic #FlushingHateFreeZone Community members from different backgrounds came together to launch the Flushing Food Collaborative, a pilot program to help local residents who need emergency assistance after the only food pantry in downtown Flushing was evicted by @NYCHA from the Bland Houses. #MutualAid The Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce and GrowNYC are collaborating to launch the 2022 season of the Flushing Greenmarket at a new location in front of Bowne Playground and P.S. 20 on Sanford Avenue between Union Street and Bowne Street beginning July 27. The New York City Districting Commission is facing backlash from Queens leaders after releasing a preliminary map of redrawn City Council districts last week, with some officials saying that the new lines would not accurately represent the communities they serve. La Jornada food pantry, which played a large role in feeding struggling families during the height of the #COVID19 pandemic is facing eviction from Bland Houses Community Center by NYCHA. The MTA announced a $61 million project to improve overcrowding conditions on stairways at the Flushing-Main Street subway station. The Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce is launching a “Lunch & Learn” program starting on Wednesday, June 29, 12pm noon. The program will be conducted virtually via remote video conference and will feature industry experts presenting on a variety of topics important to small business owners and freelancers. The Lunch & Learn program is part of the Chamber’s continuing effort to support the Flushing community and help revive the local economy, which was devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as a surge in anti-Asian hate crimes and scapegoating. We invite you to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Vincent Chin's murder at a vigil and forum this Thursday, June 23, 5pm, at the Free Synagogue of Flushing. This commemoration is part of a series of educational outreach activities organized by the Flushing Hate Free Zone campaign, which seeks to bridge the racial divide and proactively prevent growing incidents of hate and violence in our community. Hundreds of local residents, civic leaders and business owners joined the Flushing Hate Free Zone campaign to stand up against hate and violence on Sunday, June 12, 2022. Participants representing the wide diversity of the Flushing community marched in a somber procession from La Jornada food pantry at Prince Street and Roosevelt Avenue to Flushing High School at Union Street and Northern Boulevard in Queens, New York.
