FREE WEBINAR: Beauty by Christina Chiu

We invite you to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Vincent Chin's murder at a vigil and forum this Thursday, June 23, 5pm, at the Free Synagogue of Flushing. This commemoration is part of a series of educational outreach activities organized by the Flushing Hate Free Zone campaign, which seeks to bridge the racial divide and proactively prevent growing incidents of hate and violence in our community. Hundreds of local residents, civic leaders and business owners joined the Flushing Hate Free Zone campaign to stand up against hate and violence on Sunday, June 12, 2022. Participants representing the wide diversity of the Flushing community marched in a somber procession from La Jornada food pantry at Prince Street and Roosevelt Avenue to Flushing High School at Union Street and Northern Boulevard in Queens, New York. Local residents and business owners, organized by the Flushing Hate Free Zone campaign, will march against hate and violence on Sunday, June 12, 2pm. The march will start at La Jornada food pantry at Prince Street and Roosevelt Avenue and end at Flushing High School at Union Street and Northern Boulevard in Flushing, Queens. Marchers will wear white and carry photos of recent victims of gun violence. John Choe, executive director of the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce, argues that housing is a basic human right and urges NYS to transition from a failed housing policy centered on the 421a subsidy for luxury developers to more equitable, efficient model using land value tax and community land trusts. #HousingIsARight #NotALottery An exploration of the most diverse and dynamic community in the United States! There will be time to chat and eat at the end. We joined in solidarity with our community to condemn anti-Asian hate crimes and racist violence against all New Yorkers in today's #HateFreeZone march and rally organized by @kcs_ny and @minkwoncenter Our community celebrated the achievements of the Hindu Temple Society of North America with a naming ceremony for ‘Ganesh Temple Street’ on Bowne Street between Holly Avenue and 45th Avenue in Flushing, Queens. Congratulations to Dr. Uma Mysorekar and members of the Hindu Temple Society of North America on this historic milestone. We appreciate all you do for our community! Today we celebrated the life and legacy of Sarah Margaret Washington Whiting, a Flushing civic leader and community activist, with a posthumous street renaming ceremony at the intersection of Holly Avenue and Robinson Street led by her daughter, Carol Lee Whiting, a member and advisory board member of the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce. Thanks to the managers and staff of our local @starbucks stores for coming out to volunteer this past weekend at La Jornada food pantry. There's still a great deal of need in our community, including food insecurity and affordable housing, as we struggle to recover from the #covid19 pandemic. @greaterflushing is working with our local business community to recruit volunteers. Please contact us if you're interested!
