Free Fashion Training Available

Custom Collaborative is offering a free comprehensive 14-week program teaching the art, technique, and business of fashion design. Custom Collaborative specializes in teaching women how to construct made-to-measure clothing and personalized accessories for all body types. The training program includes extensive instruction in fashion business basics including marketing, sourcing, ethical manufacturing, and sustainability, along with personal finance. Students graduate equipped with the toolkit to begin a career in fashion.

Applications Open for Free Visual Arts Program

The Queens Council on the Arts is accepting applications for the “High School to Art School” free visual arts program for teens.

The High School to Art School (HS2AS) Spring Session provides an introduction to portfolio development for sophomores and juniors in high school. This session focuses on observational drawing and contemporary art practices, preparing students to apply to art school.

The program is entirely free; art supplies and Metrocards are provided.

Previous students have gotten into RISD, Pratt, SVA, and more.

Spring Session

Program Dates: March 14 – June 6
Saturdays, 10am – 3pm @ QCA in Long Island City

Application Deadline

Free Clinic for Business Owners

The Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), will be hosting monthly open clinics to provide free one-on-one consultations to business owners and entrepreneurs. The Chamber will host each 45-minute consultation on the third Tuesday of the month at 135-32 38th Avenue, Suite 25 in Flushing, NY 11354.

The Business Advisors for the open clinic are based in the Small Business Development Center at LaGuardia Community College and funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The professional services provided by SBDC Business Advisors during the open clinic include: consultation on securing financing assistance, business plan development, market research, technology services, marketing and social media, government procurement, minority and women-owned business certification, international trade and exporting, and disaster relief/recovery assistance.

Consultations will be conducted by a bilingual SBDC Business Advisor in English, Mandarin, or Fujianese. The services are free, but advance registration is required due to limited space. Business owners and entrepreneurs interested in this free consultation service must fill out the online form.
